For more than 20 years, the old bank building at the corner of Union Street and Fifth Avenue has been occupied by Body Reserve. Family owned and operated, the gym is a perfect example of the type of small, independent businesses that have flourished on Fifth for years. Plus, they have  a great story.

Read more about their story and history in a recent edition of Club Solutions Magazine.

Happy Snow Day Friday!

Well, Hurricane Snow Storm Hercules is on its way out this morning, and it has left the city looking clean, white and beautiful. Plus, schools are closed and it's Friday! Quite an exciting day!

If you get a chance, go out and take a walk on Fifth Avenue and enjoy the snow. Also, follow Mayor de Blasio's example and shovel your sidewalk (photo via Park Slope Patch). Just don't stay out too long. It's currently about 10 degrees outside and the wind chill is in the negatives.

Have a great weekend!

Winter Storm Hercules

Well, here we go with the named winter storms, again.

It appears that 2014 will start with a bang; a winter storm named "Hercules." It looks like we can expect some significant accumulations and high winds. Couldn't Mother Nature give the de Blasio administration a few weeks to settle in before testing them?

Anyway, the following alert was issued by Notify NYC last night:

Winter Weather Warning / Hazardous Travel Advisory / Alt. Side Parking Rules Suspended (CW)

Notification issued 1/1/14 at 8:00 PM. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning citywide from 6:00 PM Thu, Jan. 2 to 1:00 PM Fri Jan. 3. The current forecast calls for 6-8 inches of snow accompanied by strong winds. The NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM) today issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory for Thu and Fri due to anticipated weather conditions that will result in wet, slick sidewalks; roadways could quickly turn icy. Residents should drive slowly, monitor weather and traffic, use major streets or highways, and keep the name and number of at least one local towing service. Pedestrians should avoid slippery surfaces, dress in layers, and maintain a heightened awareness of cars, especially when crossing intersections. Please note that the NYC Dept of Transportation, in conjunction with the Dept of Sanitation, will suspended Alternate Side Parking Regulations citywide tomorrow, Thu, Jan. 2, 2014, to facilitate snow preparations.
