Brooklyn Blog Fest

We just bought our tickets to this year's Brooklyn Blogfest!

Why so early? Well, the event has been known to sell-out. It's a pretty cool gathering of local bloggers, writers, social media gurus and more and this year it's at The Bell House! Plus, we're excited to hear author Jeff Jarvis speak. We love his book What Would Google Do? (highly recommended).

For more details on the event, click here.

Just a quick reminder that Dine in Brooklyn is in its second week. It ends on Thursday, March 31st so, check out our list of Fifth Avenue participants and get out there and eat!

Photos from the Weekend

Well, despite the frigid temperatures (spring?), this certainly was a busy weekend along Fifth Avenue. Below are some photos of Saturday's E-Waste event and some shots of the Sidewalk Sale.

The Sidewalk Sale photos were taken at the end of the day, after the E-Waste event was over, so they really don't depict the Avenue during prime shopping hours. It looked like some merchants felt that it was too cold to put merchandise outside, which is understandable. Still, it might be nice to have merchandise outside of Fifth Avenue storefronts more often this Spring and Summer, don't you think?

Reminder: Sidewalk Sale this Saturday!

This weekend is going to be ridiculously busy along Fifth Avenue. Of course, there's Dine in Brooklyn (going on through the 31st) and the second E-Waste Recycling Event on Saturday.

Just to make it a little more exciting, though, this Saturday and Sunday the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID is planning a Sidewalk Sale. Merchants will have their goods outside for you to check out as you stroll along the avenue. Yes, it's going to be a bit cold, but at least there won't be any more Thundersnow! It sounds like merchants are excited about the event so it should be great!

See you there!

Dr. Bazan on the Dangers of 3D

Park Slope's own Dr. Bazan of Park Slope Eye (682 Union Street) has been pretty busy on the news circuit lately. First, there was his appearance on the CBS Early Show. More recently, he appeared on a health spot on Fox News, discussing the potential dangers of 3D technology.

Since everything is pretty much in 3D these days (All About Fifth in 3D?) and because he's a Fifth Avenue area business owner and an active community member, we thought you'd like to hear what Dr. Bazan had to say. Click here to check it out.

Panel Discussion: Invention of Brownstone Brooklyn

Park Slope residents are all too familiar with the tension between those who view the neighborhood as an ideal urban oasis and those who view it as a "yuppie disaster". The issue will literally take center stage next Tuesday, March 15th at the Museum of the City of New York at a discussion called The Invention of Brownstone Brooklyn.

Moderated by author Suleiman Osman, a panel featuring Eric Demby, co-founder of Brooklyn Flea; D. Kenneth Patton, former divisional dean of the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate; Amy Sohn, author of Prospect Park West (Simon & Schuster, 2009); and Michelle de la Uz, executive director of the Fifth Avenue Committee will explore "the racial and economic fault lines in the pro-urban ideal and the contested meaning of Brooklyn."

Interested? Reservations are required and the cost is $12 for non-members of the Museum. However, mention ALL ABOUT FIFTH while reserving tickets and you'll save $6!

Tickets: 917-492-3395 or programs@mcny.org

We Need Photos

We love to take photos of Park Slope's Fifth Avenue, but we don't always have the time. So, we are asking for a little help.

We are looking for some great shots of Fifth Avenue between Dean and 18th Streets: events, storefronts, architecture, close-ups of your friend shoving food in his or her mouth at Bonnies...whatever!

If you are a member of Flickr, join our Group and share your photos! Or, you can send them to us via email at whatsupon5thave@gmail.com.

From time to time, the photos will be used here, at All About Fifth, and at parkslopefifthavenuebid.com and we'll give you a photo credit.
