Do You Back the Bid?

No, we don't mean the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID (we hope you do back us, though). We mean the Democratic National Convention at Barclays Center!

Our very own Jonathan Bayer from Sky Ice (63 5th Avenue) was featured on a video, talking about the positive things that the convention could do for Fifth Avenue. Check it out, below:

He's in great company, with stars such as Rosie Perez and Cynthia Nixon lending their voices in support (check out more videos here).

So, do you #backthebid? Go to and show your support!

Find it on #theother5th

There has been a lot of change along Park Slope's Fifth Avenue over the past year. Some of it has been exciting, some of it very sad. All of the changes, however, have been captured on the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID's website and mobile directory.

Go to for the most up-to-date list of businesses by category. The BID updates it as businesses open and close on a weekly basis. Also, you can find the businesses you need, on the go, via their mobile site. Simply go to in your mobile phone browser and the easy-to-use mobile site will launch in place of the standard website.

Staying in a nearby Brooklyn hotel? The Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID has you covered! Ask the concierge for the new printed Fifth Avenue map and shopping guide!

See, there is literally no reason NOT to come down to #theother5th!

The Old Stone House in the Times

A big congratulations to The Old Stone House and Executive Director Kim Maier for their recent piece in the New York Times, highlighting their museum, cultural programs and the important Revolutionary War battle that took place on the spot (something that many New Yorkers forget). The article also features a little tip to visit local bars and watering holes on #theother5th, including The Gate and Colombia.

Mulchfest 2015 - Prospect Park

Sorry folks, the holiday season is officially over! The lights along Fifth Avenue are off and the tree has been taken down and prepared to be turned into mulch for Washington Park and JJ Byrne Playground.

You can have your tree turned into mulch, as well, by bringing it to Prospect Park this Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th January between 10am and 2pm. The drop off location is at 3rd Street and Prospect Park West, the entrance into Prospect Park.

Tree Stewardship

The Mulchfest is a great opportunity to be involved in Tree Stewardship, as mulching is one of the easiest, most beneficial steps of tree care, preventing water loss, insulating the soil, discouraging weed growth, and limiting the harmful effects of the salt used to clear ice and snow.

You can join the Million Trees NYC Tree Care Captains in hands on tree mulching workshops this Saturday between 11am and 1pm at Prospect Park. Learn how to care for the street trees in our neighborhood and then take some mulch home for those on your block and on our very own 5th Avenue. Trees on the commercial blocks in Park Slope like 5th Ave and 7th Ave have to cope with a lot, so give them some TreeLC and come to the Mulchfest and find out more.

Curbside Collection

If you can't make it to the Mulchfest, don't worry, leave your tree at the curb before the of 11th January and Sanitation will collect it and recycle it for you.

Moliere in The Grand Prospect Hall

Local entrepreneur John Kolle built The Grand Prospect Hall way back in 1892. Money was no object. His goal was to create a palatial French Renaissance hall that echoed the lavish opulence of Versailles. Grand Prospect Hall was to be the crown jewel of the country, an elegant reflection of Park Slope’s prosperity.

What better venue for Moliere's dark comedy of The 1%?

Join the Brave New World Repertory Theatre Company  for a unique production of The Miser at The Grand Prospect Hall! Written in 1668 but shockingly relevant, Moliere's darkest comedy The Miser is a harsh indictment wrapped in pastel-colored candy coating and set in the opulent Grand Prospect Hall. A fable about the one percent performed in modern dress, it shines a spotlight on the economic dependency of today's millennials still living with their parents and chafing under their control. This Brooklyn production hits home, showing how greed poisons the family and society.

January 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21

January 7th opening night and cocktail reception: $75
