Mulchfest 2015 - Prospect Park

Sorry folks, the holiday season is officially over! The lights along Fifth Avenue are off and the tree has been taken down and prepared to be turned into mulch for Washington Park and JJ Byrne Playground.

Mulchfest

You can have your tree turned into mulch, as well, by bringing it to Prospect Park this Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th January between 10am and 2pm. The drop off location is at 3rd Street and Prospect Park West, the entrance into Prospect Park.

Tree Stewardship

The Mulchfest is a great opportunity to be involved in Tree Stewardship, as mulching is one of the easiest, most beneficial steps of tree care, preventing water loss, insulating the soil, discouraging weed growth, and limiting the harmful effects of the salt used to clear ice and snow.

You can join the Million Trees NYC Tree Care Captains in hands on tree mulching workshops this Saturday between 11am and 1pm at Prospect Park. Learn how to care for the street trees in our neighborhood and then take some mulch home for those on your block and on our very own 5th Avenue. Trees on the commercial blocks in Park Slope like 5th Ave and 7th Ave have to cope with a lot, so give them some TreeLC and come to the Mulchfest and find out more.

Curbside Collection

If you can't make it to the Mulchfest, don't worry, leave your tree at the curb before the of 11th January and Sanitation will collect it and recycle it for you.
