Dizzy's Internet Cafe
While walking the Avenue this week, we noticed a sign in front of Dizzy's (230 Fifth Avenue @ President Street), announcing their new Internet Cafe, which is open from 8-5, daily. It appears to be set up in the greenhouse space located behind the restaurant on President Street.
Now that's a great space to get some work done! Check it out before everyone else discovers it!

Remember, It's Spring
Spring means warmer temperatures, flowers, sunshine and more people out on Fifth Avenue enjoying restaurants and bars and checking out the new season's merchandise in our world-class, independent boutiques.
So, there is no way that it is going to snow this week. It's spring. Not a chance.

Make Music NY 2014
Every year on June 21st, New York City welcomes the start of summer with live music in parks, gardens, and cafes and on street corners and sidewalks throughout the five boroughs. Now in its eighth year, this celebration, known as Make Music New York, “the largest music event
ever to grace Gotham” (Metro New York), is taking place on a Saturday in 2014! Now that's a great excuse to party!
Everyone
can take part, from professionals to amateurs, from the mainstream to
the bizarre, across every style of music. The Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID is setting up performance locations along its 30 blocks from Dean to 18th Streets in partnership with Make Music NY. If you are interested in performing, use their new online "matchmaking system" which can help match you up with a scenic Fifth Avenue sidewalk stage. The system provides all the
necessary permits to perform outdoors free of charge, and promotes all of the performances through postcards, posters, the website, a program,
WNYC radio spots, and full-page ads in Metro New York and Time Out NY. Sign up at match.makemusicny.org today!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Our guess is that you probably celebrated St. Patrick's Day already over the weekend, as it falls on a Monday this year. But, if not and you plan to celebrate today, Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Fifth Avenue, of course, has lots of world-class bars and restaurants in which to enjoy the day. Here are a couple things we noticed while walking the avenue:
Chip Shop: Corn Beef and Colcannon $13, $18 with a pint and NO GREEN BEER (AMEN!)
Pork Slope: Opening at Noon! Take the day off and celebrate!
Freddy's Bar: Saint PADDY'S Day Bash with "the Highland Shatners" and "The Star Of The County Down"

Bogota Latin Bistro at The White House
Yesterday, Bogota Latin Bistro owners Farid Ali Lancheros and George Constantinou joined President Obama at the White House for an announcement about potential changes to overtime pay for workers. Bogota is often highlighted for its progressive pay and health policies and it's great to see the owners recognized for all of their hard work.
Congratulations to Farid and George, you did Fifth Avenue proud!
For more information on yesterday's announcement, check out the articles on CNN and the LA Times.

The Leaning Spire is Removed
Way back in August of 2011 we posted about the spire of St. Augustin Church swaying in the wind after being damaged by Hurricane Irene. It was eventually secured "temporarily" with rope and there it sat until yesterday, March 11, 2014, when a crane finally rolled up to remove the spire and take it to a repair shop. Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID Board Member Erika Clark took pictures that you don't want to miss. It's not every day that an historic church has its spire removed for repairs.
We're looking forward to its return!

Annie's Blue Ribbon Backyard
Like many of Fifth Avenue's storefronts, Annie's Blue Ribbon General Store has a usable backyard behind it. It's a perfect place to hold events, do some crafts and teach some classes. Unfortunately, it needs some TLC. Well, a lot of TLC.
The good news is that they are working to raise some funds to give the backyard space a serious makeover and you can help! You can donate online or drop by their store and maybe ask to take a look at what you are investing in. You'll be glad you did!
