Roman Pizza on the Way

We are really late to this story but we felt the need to mention it, since we also noticed this spot (187 Fifth Avenue) back in January when it was empty and covered in green posters.

Six months later, the site is transformed into Campo de'Fiori, an authentic Roman Style pizza joint that will sell by the pie and the slice! Grub Street is reporting that the owner of this new restaurant also has a well-regarded restaurant in Rome and is making pizzas that are rectangular and "crunchy on the bottom and moist on top, so they can be eaten with two fingers without folding."

Sounds great, but we wonder if Brooklynites will know what to do with pizza that they can't fold!

Anyway, we look forward to giving this a try, as we have lots of great memories of eating our way through Rome. It's nice to see a vacant, billboard-covered site get transformed into an eatery this promising.

Tomorrow Night: Piper Theater Opening

Tomorrow night (Thursday, July 8th), The Old Stone House will host another season of outdoor theater by Piper Theatre Productions.

Now in its tenth year, Piper Theatre will return this year with some great new productions at a new location in the park! Starting at 8:30 on the artificial turf behind the Old Stone House, Piper Theatre will present "Nocturnes", a series of chilling tales by author John Connolly, Directed by Scottish director Nigel Williams. Also on tap, "The Book of Liz", by David and Amy Sedaris and directed by David A. Miller.

Tonight: Dancing Under the Stars!

Don't forget that tonight is the first night of the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID's weekly "Dancing Under the Stars" event!

Every Tuesday in July and August, 3rd Street at 5th Avenue (Washington Park) will be transformed into a hot spot for dancing under the stars. The events will start at 6 with kids programming and the adult, dancing portion of the program will begin at 7 and continue till 9.

A couple of weeks ago, we announced that the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID had launched a new smartphone optimized website with the help of a local Park Slope Company called Mobile Meteor. We were having a hard time creating a video demo of the site for you to see, but luckily Mobile Meteor has created one and we think you'll see that this really is a great tool for visitors to the avenue! Change on Fifth Update

Ok, so if you read the update to our post yesterday, you will note that Luscious Foods is not closing and that LuLu's new shop is opening in a different space at 75A Fifth Avenue, which was formerly host to the "Eshe" boutique.

The new LuLu's shop, known as "LuLu's then&now", will be opening on September 1st. They will have a mix of new and gently used children's clothing, toys, books and baby gear. They are currently accepting Fall and Winter clothing for cash and store credit and you can call LuLu's now to make an appointment.

It seems like Fifth Avenue is becoming quite the hub for "gently used" and vintage clothing, no? There's Guvnor's Vintage Thrift, Odd Twin, Beacon's Closet and now LuLu's then&now.

Is this becoming part of the Avenue's new brand?
