Major Changes To Fifth This Week
A couple of long-time Fifth Avenue institutions are closing this week. We want to take a moment to recognize their importance:
- Excelsior Bar (390 Fifth Avenue): Sadly, they served their last drink last night. Excelsior has been an anchor in the community and a key organizer of Brooklyn Pride for many years. We wish the owners lots of luck and we hope they can find a space to reopen soon, nearby or right on Fifth Avenue.
- M&S Prime Meats (312 Fifth Avenue): This old-time Italian sandwich shop/deli/butcher has been on Fifth Avenue in some form or another since the 1940's. We are told by the staff that Thursday, August 7th will be their last day in business, as the owner (Mel) has some health challenges that make it difficult to continue. We will really miss their food and we wish Mel the best in the future. Luckily, the storefront will not remain empty for long. It will soon be occupied by Russo's.
Thank you for all you have done for Park Slope's Fifth Avenue!
