Everyone's Talking Burgers

The whole neighborhood is abuzz this week with the talk of burgers. For years, Fifth Avenue was lucky to have spots like Bonnie's Grill, 200 Fifth and Corner Burger to cure our burger fix. Now, not only is commercial real estate booming near the Barclay's Arena site, but the area is quickly becoming a magnet for burger joints anticipating thousands of mouths to feed on game nights.

Some of these new restaurants will be open on Flatbush Avenue and beyond but at least two burger joints will soon be open on the North End of Fifth Avenue: Chez Bibi's and Burger Bistro. Read more in the Brookyn Paper and FIPS.

Hearing on Restaurant Grading System

Restaurant owners from around the city will be converging on the New York City Council tomorrow (March 7th) at 1:00 PM to testify at a public hearing on the Department of Health's restaurant inspection program.

We've heard a lot of concerns about the fairness of the program, so we expect this hearing to be very crowded. If you are a restaurant owner, you may want to drop by and say a few words. Otherwise, stay tuned for the news coverage.

Electronics Recycling March 24th

Just a reminder that on Saturday, March 24th, the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID, Lower East Side Ecology Center and City Council Member Brad Lander will be sponsoring an electronics recycling event from 9 am - 4 pm at the corner of 5th Avenue and 4th Street.

What can you bring?

Working and non-working equipment:

•    Printers, scanners, fax-machines, copiers
•    Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.)

Bike Sharing Workshop

Happy March, everyone!

We've been following news about the city's bike share program closely because, frankly, we think it will be good for Park Slope's Fifth Avenue (if we get some stations) and, with spring right around the corner, we're ready to give the bikes a spin.

Anyway, if you are interested in the program, there will be a Community Planning Workshop on Thursday, March 15th, 2012, 6:30 PM–8:30 PM

Join Brooklyn’s Community Board 6 and local residents and business owners at a roundtable planning workshop to help decide how bike share should work and where stations should go in Cobble Hill and Park Slope. In cooperation with Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, Community Board 6, NYS Senators Velmanette Montgomery and Daniel Squadron, NYS Assemblymembers Joan Millman and James Brennan, and NYC Council Members Brad Lander and Stephen Levin. The Workshop will be held at Old First Reformed Church, 729 Carroll Street, (at 7th Avenue) Brooklyn, NY 11215. The entrance to the workshop will be on Carroll Street.


Sessions will begin at 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
