Pork Slope Breaks Into Grub Street's Power Rankings

Each week, Grub Street, a food-news blog by New York Magazine, ranks the city's restaurants by their popularity and the buzz they are generating. The list is usually dominated by fancy Manhattan spots but this week, Pork Slope (247 Fifth Avenue) broke into the list at #5!

Interestingly enough, Chef Dale Talde's other Park Slope outpost, Talde (369 7th Avenue), is on the list at #16!

Some Upcoming Merchant Events

The last days of summer may be upon us, but that doesn't mean that the fun has to end. Here are a few upcoming merchant events that you may want to put in your calendar. There is always something going on, on Park Slope's Fifth Avenue:

Uncle Barry's: Yes, they serve more than just prociutto-wrapped Twix Bars. Uncle Barry's is a great new bar at 58 Fifth Avenue. Drop by on Monday, August 27 at 9:00 pm for their monthly beer class and tasting hosted by their very own Matt Volner. $15

Aperitivo: their monthly special dinners are becoming legendary. In fact, this month's "Bourbon BBQ Dinner" is completely sold out. So, why tell you about it? Well, you never know, a lot of people could suddenly cancel from the reserve list and you'll be able to enjoy a great meal! Call 718-369-1123 or email aperitivocafe@gmail to give it a try.

Coming early next month: South: On Sunday Sept 9th at 3pm, South (629 Fifth Avenue) is holding their second annual Mac and Cheese cook off! If you want to sign up and enter your own Mac & Cheese dish, drop by the bar. Otherwise, bring your appetites on the 9th and get ready to eat. A Lot!

Battle Week Begins

Every year in August, our borough marks the Battle of Brooklyn, which took place on August 27, 1776. The battle was the first major conflict in the American Revolutionary War, after the United States declared itself to be an independent nation. Believe it or not, it was also the largest conflict in the entire war!

There will be lots of special events commemorating the Battle of Brooklyn in both Brooklyn and Manhattan, this year, including at The Old Stone House. To see the full schedule, click here.

Tonight: Sirsy Rocks Fifth

Fifth Avenue's Backyard

If you are reading this and you live in New York City, then you are probably not enjoying the summer in your own backyard. For the most part, we New Yorkers rely on our parks, tar rooftops and fortunate friends to access the great outdoors.

Well, if this describes you, you may want to drop by Backyard (located at 388 Fifth Avenue)! Fifth Avenue's own backyard opened at the end of winter but the dog days of summer are really the ideal time to check it out.

Here's what they have planned as the end of summer nears:

- $1 Each Oysters on Fridays
- Happy Hour from 4-8 ever day, $1 off bears, $3 cans, $5 bourbon lemonades
- August BBQ Cookout: Saturday, August 11th, 3-8 PM, Chicken and ribs, craft beer, hot sauce. Get your tickets (hey, space is limited) here.
